Odisha finished runners-up in the Junior Women National Football Championship when they suffered a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manipur in the final at Rosary Ground in Navelim, Goa today.
But overall, Odisha girls put up impressive performance in the championship, winning six matches enroute the final. They scored a total of 31 goals, while conceding eight. Jasmani Samad was Odisha`s top scorer with nine goals, followed by captain Anima Malik with five.
Earlier in the semifinals today, Odisha hammered Bihar 4-2, while Manipur got the better of Delhi 4-2. Odisha qualified for the last-four state, winning all three of their quarterfinal league matches convincingly. They beat Mizoram 3-1, host Goa 2-1 and Delhi 1-0.
Odisha reached the quarterfinal league, winning both of their Group-B matches by huge margin. They started with 10-0 win over Chandigarh and continued their winning run by crushing Karnataka 11-0. Jasmani Samad was the star performer of the Odisha team, scoring seven goals in three games so far.
